Newell Convers Wyeth in 1932 painted a mural for a bank in Wilmington Delaware, entitled "Apotheosis of the Family".
N.C. Wyeth was a Thoreavian, a person who is influenced by the writings of Henry David Thoreau, and
had been, since his newly married wife gave him Thoreau's book, Walden, Or Life in the Woods.
The publisher of Thoreau, Ticknor & Fields, had created editions of Thoreau's edited writings
that were named after the four seasons. The mural follows that theme in the eyes of a visual artist giving
compendium to the seasons in one great long image. (16' x 60') Four years later, a lifetime quest of Wyeth was
fulfilled when he was commissioned to illustrate a book of edited Thoreau, entitled, Men of Concord.
